Tuesday, August 8.  Clear, sunny, and warm with mostly westerly winds today.   Bruce Morley on site with REAL until about 4:30 PM.

Shane arrived around 3:30 PM and stayed at site until around 5:30 PM.  Monitored system from hotel.

At about 9:12 PM PDT (04:12 UTC on 9 August) I noticed aerosol disturbances on the southern edge of the scan area moving to the north.  Over the next few minutes I observed a "front" for lack of better description that moved over the experimental area.  It moved from the SSW to the NNE and behind the leading edge was SSW flow as evidenced by the motion of aerosol features in the images.  I also noticed from the local ASOS data an increase in air temperature of almost 10 degrees F.   Pierre Derian made the following time-lapse animations of the event:

    M2HATS_REAL_scans_20230809_front.mp4

    M2HATS_REAL_winds_20230809_front_seq2.mp4

We note the derived vector flow fields are not optimized yet and only provided here is a coarse preliminary quick look.

After the event, I was intending once again to shut the system down for the night, but noticed aerosol structures moving in the NNE.    I let the system run until 2:20 AM PDT (on August 9) after the images and flow appeared more boring.
