FF01
Tech: Ivana Vu

Pre-flight:
-SATCOM inop (groundbot not connected on HexChat, although Chris was getting Aeros packets once a minute on ground)
-PHIPS unable to connect (60Hz and 400Hz AI power remains on during flight)

Flight 1:
-2DS and HVPS lost power after takeoff, likely due to luggage bumping into forward power cables at L-6 rack (where power cables from 2DS and HVPS plates plug into power drop box). 2DS power was flickering while HVPS power remained off. Both probes reconnected without issue after we moved the luggage, wiggled power cables at power drop box connection, and reset power on 2DS and HVPS plates.

Fuel Stop (in Sioux Falls, SD):
-Cameras turned off and ethernet cable unplugged/plugged back in
-APU on, ADS power stayed on
-Wing probes turned off to prevent overheating
-Balanced dewpointers
-SATCOM troubleshooting: switch reset, circuit breakers reset, CISCO router reset
-HOLODEC: camera tip heater lost connection after landing
-PHIPS re-started, still unable to connect (60Hz and 400Hz AI power remains on during flight)

Flight 2:
1900: SATCOM switch and circuit breakers reset
1905: Hexchat worked for a few minutes, then cut out again
1910: HOLODEC camera tip heaters connected again
2040: SATCOM switch and circuit breakers reset, still inop
2109: DSMTEMP 325 shows -2400 degrees C
2111: Aeros data not updating but Nimbus data still updating
2250: Turned WCR power on to keep warm

Email from Chris about SATCOM:

Here are the connections from comsat today:

Mostly connected.   Seems like the router was not dialing, even though Ivana rebooted it on the ground.  We had an active session until a few minutes after take off and that is it.

  1. Thanks for the writeup Ivana. I don't see the email image you posted, though. It's not showing up. Is anyone else seeing it on here?

Also, did you try connecting to PHIPS at all in flight or did you just turn power off/on and anti-ice while in the air?

  2. I re-added the image, Cory. It won't show up in the email from Ivana, but if you follow the link to the page, it should work now. Let me know if it doesn't

  3. In response to questions about the flight notes:

-I tried connecting to PHIPS on the ground during pre-flight in Broomfield and during the fuel stop in Sioux City. Unable to connect both times so I just kept the probe and AI power on while in-flight. I can try re-connecting in-flight during this next leg to see if it helps.

I'll add edits/clarification to the flight notes.

  4. Re: SATCOM - it worked during pre-flight and until about 5 minutes after take off.  The once a minute packet turned out to be Carol injecting data from FlightAware.  As Ivana noted, we had her reboot the router during refuel.  The plane was facing 245 deg, so West.  That eliminated the left/right antenna, though so did the report from comsat which showed satellite registration most of the flight.
