Internship Program

Description:

Internship program at the super computing center for undergradute and graduate students. Modeled after internship programs at NCAR.

Benefits:

Outreach and recruitment of future workforce for the data center. Contribution to education in Wyoming, the region and potentially nationwide.

UCAR/NCAR's role:

Hosting the students, pay salaries/benefits. Engineers' time to mentor a student. If region- or nation wide program: added cost such as housing and travel.

External roles:

Universities help with the recruitment of interns. Give credit for doing an internship at the center. Professors do site visits.

Timeframe:

Once the center is fully operational and staff has time to mentor students.

Life Span:

As long as time allows to mentor students.

Research Conducted:

Review other internship programs at NCAR.

SOARS is a four-year, paid summer research internship for undergraduate science, math, engineering, and social science students. Financial support for graduate school study available.

Advanced Study Program Postdoctoral Fellowships

Brings recent Ph.D.s to NCAR to work on a research project of their choosing that is relevant to the NCAR Scientific Mission.  Fellowships are for one year with a one year extension and are located in Boulder, Colorado.  Applications are accepted between October and January 5 annually.
