Announcement to Participants

Dear Workshop Participants:

First of all, thank you for attending the "Workshop on the Applications of GPS Radio
Occultation to Climate." This promises to be an exciting event, with very fruitful
discussions.

I hope you are now able to access the WiKi that we have set up for the workshop:
https://www.wiki.ucar.edu/display/ucargpsrocaw/Home

If for whatever reasons that you have trouble accessing the wiki,
please let Karl Hudnut know (khudnut@ucar.edu) immediately.

The registration for the workshop will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, 17 March 2008.
The session will begin at 8:30 a.m. The primary objective of the workshop is to have a
thorough discussion on the ten scientific issues raised by NOAA scientists with regards to
the applications of GPS radio occultation to climate. In order to provide some
background materials with regards to the measurement techniques, data processing, and
data retrieval that are relevant to climate applications we have scheduled six presentations
at the opening session of the workshop. The rest of the workshop will be focused on the
discussions on the ten scientific issues.

We have grouped the discussions of the ten scientific issues into four separate sessions.
Each session will be co-chaired by a GPS RO expert and a NOAA scientist. I have taken
the liberty to assign chair persons for these sessions. I hope this is OK with you. We
would like the session chairs to introduce the scientific issues (these issues are posted on
the wiki). The chairs should feel free to present a few slides that are relevant to the
session, or to solicit participants to give short presentations. We would also like the
session chairs to summarize the discussions and to give a report in the wrap-up session
before the end of the workshop on 18 March. If you would like to give a short
presentation (a few slides) that is relevant to the various sessions, please feel free to
contact the session chairs directly.

Again, thank you for coming to the workshop, and I look forward to seeing you in Boulder.

With warm regards,

Bill Kuo
