The Web Engineering Group (WEG) upgraded the version of confluence running wiki.ucar.edu to 5.2 on Monday December 9th. The upgrade addresses security concerns and introduces new changes that are particularly noticed in the layout and newly introduced navigation sidebar and editor. A few of these visual changes are illustrated in the following picture:
* The left red arrow shows a new navigation side bar providing navigation to child pages. The sidebar can be hidden with the left-facing arrow at the bottom of the page.
** The center red arrow shows that the path to a page is replaced with a new menu bar.
*** The right red arrow shows a new menu to get to user account and other settings.
While these are just a few of the visual changes, there are also changes that may impact how you work within the wiki. Some of these changes include:
1) Changes to the script agent.
2) Changes to the wiki editor, including a reduced reliance on wiki markup. (Wiki markup codes can still be inserted, but the editor does not include a wiki markup mode.)
Staff members are encouraged to read through the changes in Confluence from our current version, 3.5, to the new 5.2 version that has been installed. The release notes are found on the following pages

Later this month, confluence will be updated to version 5.3:

When the upgrade takes place, all pages will be automatically converted to be viewed in the 5.3 version. However, we have experienced that a small percentage of pages will have errors or not convert properly due to previous layout and characters used within some pages. Page Administrators/Creators/Authors are responsible for checking that their content has converted correctly. Pages can be checked on the TEST wiki site at https://tsalak.ucar.edu:17443/. The TEST wiki site was created using data from Monday November, 4 2013. If errors are found within pages you administer, please plan to fix them on the current production wiki site (https://wiki.ucar.edu) beforehand or after the wiki site has been upgraded. Any changes made on the TEST wiki site will NOT be transferred over.
After the upgrade there will be no anticipated changes in connectivity to the wiki.
