On Saturday July 22nd, wiki.ucar.edu will be undergoing a major upgrade.  When the upgrade is complete there will be a number of noticeable changes.

Autowatch:

Due to choices made by the vendor and a change in application packaging, we no longer have the ability to globally override the default autowatch functionality introduced into Confluence several years ago.  This means that by default all users will have the autowatch functionality enabled.  This functionality will result in an email being sent to you everytime a page you have created, edited, or commented on has been updated.  It is expected that very few users actually want this.

It is recommended that users disable autowatch ahead of the upgrade, preventing them from seeing these increased emails:

Disabling Autowatch:

  1. Choose your profile picture at top right of the screen, then choose Settings

  2. Choose Email on the left sidebar

  3. Choose Edit

  4. Make sure Autowatch is unchecked.  Review the other email options as well.

  5. Choose Submit

Dashboard:

There have been a number of changes made to the Confluence dashboard.

  1. A sidebar has been introduced containing your favorite spaces and options controlling the main content.

  2. The main dashboard display now varies depending on the sidebar option selected (updates, history, etc).

Collaborative Editing:

Confluence has added a collaborative editing function which works similarly to that of google drive:  multiple users can now edit a page and see other users’ edits at the same time.  Some browser extensions may interfere with collaborative editing functionality.

Status Updates:

The status updates feature has been removed.  Users will no longer be able to set a status within their profile.

Documentation Theme:

The documentation theme has been removed.  Spaces using this theme will revert to the default theme.

Space Permissions:

Space admins will now see a “Delete Own” permission under the space permissions page.  This permission allows a user to delete pages within the space that they have created, but no others, compared to the space-wide “Pages Delete” permission which allows a user to delete any page within the space.
