Shane is going to Chhico - traveling to Chico today.  The REAL is being operated by Bruce.

Bruce had to reboot the computer.  The detectors need to be turned on if the computer is rebooted.

The voltage on the detectors we need needed to be adjusted with the Set_Detector_Voltage_3.0 program on startup to insure ensure that the detectors are were about 1 volt below the avalanche condition.

Clear with light winds.

Was not able to start data collection in the morning due to a data disk failure on the data acquisition computer.  The disk labeled 'M2HATS_4TB_01' in the dock could not be written to by LabVIEW.  All the data files appear to be on the disk as they appear in the directory listing.  The disk was replaced with '4 TB lidar data 3' and appears to be working.

A second more serious issue was ten then discovered - no return signal was seen on the data display.  Turning the detectors off with the LabVIEW vi did not make any difference in the Raw Data Display.  The Range Corrected display showed a high-frequency sign sine-wave-looking signal.  The digitizer was functioning properly - the 1 khz kHz from an oscilloscope was input to the NIscope app and was displayed properly.  After talking to Scott and Robert it was decided to check the detector power supply and the 12-volt outputs were measured to be at only +-3 volts.  The power supply was old and Shane had purchased a spare before the M2HATS started but was not installed before the project.  The old power supply was removed and the new power supply installed

Photos with silver metal are of old power supply. The old power supply -120 V input on the left -+_ 12V output on the right.

The new power supply has a gold color.  It is an Acopian TD12-250.

Above: New power supply - -12V output ( +12V red jumper bar, -12V middle black jumper and common return right jumper bar) and 120V input (yellow lugs).

The New new power supply fixed the data input problem and data were collected from about 1900 PDT until 2100 PDT

Light rain at the start of data collection but very quiet lidar returns at 2100 PDT.

Thunderstorms mid-afternoon to early evening with occasional light rain.  Some rain was observed in the REAL returns.
