Watching a WiKi Page

Open this link and bookmark it as appropriate.

Click on the "LogIn" button at the upper right hand portion of the page and log in with your CIT password.

In the column on the left hand side of the page, under the heading "PAGE TREE", there are three main pages: Instruments, Projects and Technicians. If you do not see a page tree, click "Configure sidebar" under Space Shortcuts and select the radio button labeled "Page tree", then click "Done".

The pages Instruments and Technicians are for general use, (this document should be updated once their utility has been determined).

Anyone can see the Projects page regardless of their log in status, but not the Instruments and Technicians pages.

The intent of the Projects page is to replace the use of emails and Word documents for flight notes. Our WiKi page has better search functions than emails and Word documents and can be "read only" subscribed to by anyone who can log in.

One of the advantages of using this Wiki is that it is the responsibility of interested parties to watch a page, absolving us of the responsibility of including them in distribution lists. Anyone with internet access can view a WiKi page, for this reason entries should be kept professional. However a user must be logged in to watch (receive push email notices) a page or make changes to the page.

Use the "PAGE TREE" in the left hand column to select a page of interest.

In the upper right hand corner of the page, click "Watch".

A popup box will appear with the text "You are not watching this page. Start watching to receive email updates about changes to this page."

Selecting the "Watch tree" hyperlink is currently believed to be the best option. It will enable email updates about changes to this page and all its child pages. After selecting this option, the "Watch page" box will be checked for this page and all its child pages. It is recommended that each project be watched individually, even though any page at any level can be "watched". Watching the page labeled "Projects" will enable email updates for each blank page created when a new project is added (not desirable).

Selecting the radio button labeled "Watch page" will enable email updates about changes to this page but no other, even child pages of this page.

Selecting the radio button labeled "Watch all content in this space" will enable email updates about all changes anywhere in the UCAR WiKi, not just RAF.

Selecting the "Unwatch tree" hyperlink will undo the actions of the "Watch tree" hyperlink and some of the actions of the "Watch page" and "Watch all content in this space" check boxes. The user should verify that all child pages have been unwatched, this feature is an add-on and has some actions that are not completely understood.

Creating and Editing a WiKi Page

To Add a WiKi Page, first navigate to the intended parent page. Then, on the top tool bar, click "Create". Lastly, the page must have a name that is unique to the entire WiKi.

To Make an Entry on a Page, use the "PAGE TREE" to navigate to the child page desired. Then write in the comments section and click "Save". When an entry to a page is saved, everyone watching the page will receive an email notification of the change. For this reason, it is recommended that a running log of the flight be made in the ADS computer, then one copy and paste operation be performed toward the end of the flight. It is also possible to click the page title, then click "Edit", write as desired, then click "Update". However, for consistency, we are choosing the former method.

Searching a WiKi page

Wiki Backup

Wiki backup is a post-project task intended to provide a restore point in case of a disaster. It should be noted that a nightly backup is performed by CISL but restoring a Wiki is time intensive, hence the manual backup by the RAF Wiki administrator.

To export pages to HTML, XML, or PDF:

  1. Go to the RAF Technician Wiki Home page

  2. In the lower left hand corner, choose Space tools > Content Tools from the bottom of the sidebar

  3. In the second row, choose Export

  4. Select XML then choose Next

  5. Select Full Export (XML) – to produce an XML file containing all the pages in the space, including those that you do not have permission to view.

  6. Choose Export.

  7. Wiki Backups should be stored on the share drive at \\eol-epicac\raftechs\Wiki Backup. The naming convention is to label the folder with the last project name, however note that this procedure backs up the entire wiki.

A discussion of the backup options can be found here https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/export-content-to-word-pdf-html-and-xml-139475.html
