Today the aircraft mechanics pulled the launcher so that we could inspect it closer and install the heaters.  Steve Rauenbuehler had sent us the schematics (Launcher_drawings.PDF) to help in the investigation of the launcher problems. Without opening up the launcher, we could see that three of the four springs pulling back the valve gate were broken and that only one spring was under tension in the closed state. This explains all symptoms we had seen. Possibly the third spring broke on the last flight, preventing any further sondes to be launched. We are working on finding the replacement springs both in Costa Rica and getting them sent from the US. The installation would be done together with Matt Thronton and Jason Morris, who had some exposure to the launcher when it was built. The installation should not take more than a few hours. Getting the parts is the limiting factor at the moment.
