Fine weather, mostly sunny with light winds.  Today was the first day of operations, but there weren't any soundings or other special activity planned.  The first IOP is scheduled to start Monday morning and continue 24 hours to Tuesday morning.  Today was mostly a checking systems and maintenance day.  All ISS systems are working, including the ISS3 wind profiler at Sedgwick.   John and Liz visited all three sites doing some documentation work such as collecting serial numbers of sensors, measuring sensor heights and mapping the sites.  They also levelled the lidar and sprayed a cayenne pepper mixture on some of the profiler cables at Sedgwick to hopefully repel some of the ground squirrels that have been seen chewing on cables there.  We also installed the CS125 visibility sensor on the 3-meter tower at the ISS1 site.  I went off with Steve to do some off-roading up to the ISFS site on Little Pine mountain.  We all attended a get-together with the other groups involved with the project this evening.

  1. At ISS3, I did move the data manager computer and monitor from the CyberPower UPS to the other UPS.  The front panel on the CyberPower UBS now says that it can support the load (i.e. profiler and ceilometer) for ~45 minutes, up from an estimated 20 mins.   One thing to note was that an extra 5 minutes was gained in the estimated support time by turning off the monitors.  So it is recommended to turn off all monitors when you leave.
