Strand Map Service Wiki

This is the home page for the Strand Map Service and Science Literacy Maps.

The Strand Map Service (SMS) provides technology for creating visual interactive concept browsing interfaces based on the learning goals articulated in Benchmarks for Science Literacy (AAAS 1993). End-user interfaces that are created using the service enable users to browse the concept space, discover educational resources that support the learning goals and view additional information related to the concepts.

September 2015: The Science Literacy Maps and Strand Map Service moved from being hosted on Rackspace to being hosted on CISL (VM infrastructure) with the UCARConnect infrastructure (see the UCARConnect Operations Wiki). There was no change to the map content or look and feel of the application. The Earth science literacy maps (subset of the strandmaps) are still available on DLESE.

December 2014: The Science Literacy Maps and Strand Map Service moved from it's old home at NSDL (strandmaps.nsdl.org) to it's new home at strandmaps.dls.ucar.edu at the end of NSF funding for NSDL. The Maps and SMS service did not change, however the NSDL Top Picks tab was removed when the NSDL Search API was retired.
