Overrunning ahead of a surface warm/occluded front leads of many MOG icing PIREPs in the vicinity of KCLE. Freezing rain and ice pellets reported in and around KCLE throughout the event.
Cellular SLW='yes icing' features across the radar domain with a 50% or greater percent coverage at the time of this Light and Moderate PIREP. Almost no freezing drizzle detected aloft by the algorithm! No SLW icing detected by the modifies non-polarized algorithm.
Cellular SLW='yes icing' features across the radar domain with a 50% or greater percent coverage at the time of these two 'light severity' PIREPs. Almost no freezing drizzle detected aloft by the algorithm! No SLW icing detected by the modifies non-polarized algorithm.
Significant SLW called out in the radar volume at time of MOG PIREP. The modified non-polarized SLW algorithm had a narrow band of SLW near the cloud top, but no the significant volumetric coverage shown in the polarized IHL.
The general IHL view in this closest radar volume does not match the reported 'null severity' PIREP. Significant SLW called out in the radar volume. A curious ring of IHL='no icing' is evident at all tilts, specifically at 50-80km in the 0.5 degree tilt. This could be due to a 'warm nose' detected in the model temperature profile. Some patches of freezing drizzle are now detected in the extreme western portion of the volume for the first time.
The IHL plot at this time matches well with the reported 'null severity' PIREP. In high and low tilts, the weak return area near the radar is determined to have almost no positive icing. The higher cloud deck that has translated east of KCLE still has cellular SLW features embedded in the polarized IHL.
The IHL plot at this time matches well with the reported 'null severity' PIREP. In high and low tilts, the weak return area near the radar is determined to have almost no positive icing by the polarized IHL algorithm. ** Not yet sure why the non-polarized IHL shows some small areas of freezing drizzle when the polarized algorithm shows nothing. **
