Regularly scheduled or unscheduled WFH days are not an entitlement, but a privilege, and are granted with additional requirements:
- Justification approved by supervisor for the request to WFH either regularly or unscheduled
- If there is inclement weather, and UCAR has not announced a facility closure, but travel is unproductive (extreme traffic delays) and/or dangerous, staff may WFH without prior approval. Otherwise you need to come to work if UCAR is open, or take PTO
 - In an official UCAR closure situation, e.g. snow day or business continuity situation:
- Exempt staff are required to WFH and/or take PTO/Vacation and report time accordingly - no prior approval is required, however, notification to HSS of plans are required
 - Non-exempt staff should report hours not worked, due to the closure of the facility, as 'Closure' on their time card

 - Business communication by telephone to home offices and emails requires prompt responses
 - Staff are required to indicate their status as WFH on their personal and the HSS sectional google calendars
 - A network connection of sufficient speed to allow effective access to UCAR (DSL or cable minimum requirement)
 - A UCAR machine or a properly configured machine with at least the following applications:
- Email program configured for UCAR email access
 - Google Calendar
 - Properly patched web browser which will support all UCAR web applications
 - Video Conferencing software - Google Hangouts
