Statement: My current and previous research is focused on quantifying the emissions from cropland (specifically crop residue burning) and rangeland burning in the contiguous United States and Russia using remote sensing data and methods. The 2010 ECSA Junior Faculty Forum on Future Scientific Directions Topic 11: Biomass Burning - Observations, Modeling, Data Assimilation provides a unique opportunity for me to both obtain new knowledge from and to collaborate with fellow early career scientists as well as established scientists in the field of biomass burning. I feel that my contribution, specifically with knowledge of anthropogenic burning and non-wildland fire events and emissions, will add a different scientific dimension to the overall understanding of biomass burning monitoring, emissions calculations, and modeling.
