12:20 - 13:00

clear, cold, and light winds

After a conversation with Sebast1an, we found out the proper way to setup the shadowband.

(1) set the angle of the ring support arm to the latitude of the site not the sun's elevation.

(2) adjust the position of the shadow ring such that a shadow is cast on the center of the Licor (the ring is moved up or down on the support arm.

Tom completed the re-alignment at 12:47. This included aligning the unit to south

12:35 .Radiometer domes were cleaned

15:30 - 15:40

revisit because diffuse reading low. Connector was loose, reset and all is well.

Sensor was unshaded for a short time

Clear and cold with winds

This was an afternoon adjustment of the shadowband. It appears the latest change made with the mounting of the Licor

sensor did not help. Tom found he had to make a major elevation change to shadow the sensor. He left the setting at 32 degrees.

Kurt is sending out one of the other shadowband units so we can do some comparisons

12:30 - 13:15

clear and cold with high winds

Re-adjusted the shadowband so it is like the unit at station 7. Elevation angle before any changes was 31 degrees. Elevation angle set to 34 degrees based on shadow cast on sensor.

Program said angle should have been 32.2 degrees.

8:30 - 9:00

Clear and very cold with high winds

Re-installed shadowband with modifications. We still suffer from sunshine when the unit is set to the correct elevation angle.

Tom lowered the licor in the mounting block such that the top of the sensor is in line with the pivot axis of the block.

Now we are getting shading at the correct angle.
