Comment: Migrated to Confluence 4.0

August 12, 18:45
Dan Rajewski (in Ames)

Summary: Stations 1-4 operational, no ISFS staff on site, Russ and Jimmy serviced the wind cubes
mostly cloudy overnight, light showers around 1:00, morning cloudy but clearing skies by early afternoon
light winds from the S to SE in the nighttime and switching to SW and somewhat WSW by early afternoon

Vdsm: 13.4-13.7 V during day, down to 12.4 at night
P: ok, rising pressure in overnight until remnants of a MCS in western IA cause about 5mb drop in ~1hr, rising or somewhat steady pressure rest of the period
T.2m: stn1 about 1.5 degrees C warmer than stn 4 from 20:30-23:00, and about 0.7-1.0 degrees C warmer than stns 2-3; From 23:30-0:30 stns 1 &4 about 1.0 degrees C cooler than other sites, stn4 sightly cooler than other sites rest of the nighttime;
RH.2m: stn1 about 10% RH lower than stn 4 from 20:30-23:00, and about 5-7% drier RH than stns 2-3; From 23:30-0:30 stns 1 &4 about 5%RH higher than other sites, stn4 about 5%RH higher than other sites rest of the night up through 10:30; daytime: stn 3 about few%RH lower than other sites
H2O.2m: night: stn 4 about 0.7-1.0 g/m^3 more vapor than other sites much of the night and about 0.5 g/m^3 more moist during the early to late morning;
Wetness: sensor mostly dry, slight voltage detected at 20:30 but clouds from nearby storms inhibited dew formation by 21:00

T.10m: ok, similar pattern as in T.2m for stn1 and the other sites before midnight through 1:00, good daytime agreement
RH.10m: ok, similar to RH.2m before midnight and through 1:00; stn 2 about 5%RH lower than other sites from 5:30 to 10:30
H2O.10m: night: stn 2 about 0.3-0.5 g/m^3 drier than other sites, day: stn 2 about 0.5 g/m^3 drier than other sites until 10:30, stn 4 slightly drier than the other sites in the afternoon
Spd.10m: ok, stn 2 is about 0.5-1.0 m/s lower than other sites from 21:00-22:00 and from 1:00-1:30; gust front from decaying thunderstorm (8 m/s captured at all sites around 2:15); slightly lower speed at stn4 during mid-late afternoon
Dir.10m: ok, mostly S to SE winds during the night; winds veering to SW and sometimes WSW through mid afternoon, slight WNW late in the period

T.10m - T.2m: night: stn4 about 0.5-0.7 degrees C warmer at 10 m vs. 2 m from 22:30-00:00 and from 2:00-5:00, close daytime agreement , stns 3 & 4 a bit higher temp at 2m vs. 10 m as compared to other sites for the late morning and early afternoon
H2O.10m - H2O.2m: night: stn1&3 near zero moisture gradient in overnight and several periods where stn2 is slightly drier at 10m vs. 2m than for stns 1&3, stn4 about 1.0 g/m^3 more moist at 2m vs. 10 m than other sites both at night and day;
spd.4.5m: ok, similar for Spd.10m
dir.4.5m: ok, see comments for Dir.10m, a bit more easterly flow noted at stn2 than other sites more ESE; or more SE flow at 4.5m vs. S to SSE flow at 10m
w.4.5m: ok, frequent changes in backing/veering wind direction complicates detection of vertical motion
tc.4.5m: ok, similar to T.2m
ldiag: ok,spiked values at stns 2-4 are quite low, stn 2 missing a few 100 samples in both night an daytime calculations

kh2oV: ok, between 250-500 mV for night to day behavior
kh2o: night: stn 4 around about 2 g/m^3 wetter than stn 2 and about 4-6 g/m^3 more moist than stns 1 & 3 for the overnight and daytime;
h2o(licor): ok, stn 1 about 0.5 g/m^3 drier than stn 3 from much of the night; close agreement by 10:00
lidiag (licor): ok, few periods of spikes in the early afternoon

TKE.4.5m: ok, higher TKE at stn1 vs. other from 21:15-22:00, stn2 higher than stn 1 by 0.20 m^/2s^2 from 23:30-0:30; gust front caused turbulence spike of near 3.0 m^2/s^2 at all sites
w'w': ok, similar to TKE.4.5m, also seen in u'u' and v'v'
u*: ok, similar to TKE.4.5m, u'w' patterns well to 21:15-22:00 and v'w' is similar to 23:30-0:30 period
w'tc': ok, night: larger negative heat flux by 0.02 C m/s at stn 1 as in u* especially from 21:15-22:00; afternoon fluxes at all sites mostly agree
tc'tc': ok, not as clear of a signal for w't'c but stn2 less variance than stn 1 for the first period and somewhat a reversal pattern for the second period; daytime: stn 4 a bit higher variance than other stations
w'h2o': ok, stn1 somewhat higher flux than other sites from 21:15-22:00; stn 2 & 4 slightly more negative flux than other sites much of the day
h2o'h2o' (licor): ok, close agreement for nighttime; stns 1 & 3 about 0.2 (g/m^3)^2 greater variance than at stn 2 & 4 in the late morning to mid afternoon
kh2o'kh2o': night: close agreement; daytime: stn 2 about 0.1 units less variance than stn 4 for much of late morning and afternoon
w'co2': ok, night and daytime flux in pretty close agreement except for when sensor spikes were occurring
co2'co2': ok, first half of night: slight differences between the sites; after the wind gust (2:00) variances in close agreement continuing on into the afternoon hours
