Soil sampling photos

Because the soil is so porous (dry and sandy), we use a spatula to secure the soil to the corer before removing the entire core. 

Pour out the excess soil from the corer until the soil is at the top level of the middle ring. Measure out soil into the tin where an extra ring sits (left). Remove the ring and weigh, as usual (right).  


Aug 15 Preliminary Comparisons 

The plot below compares the Qsoil against the soil samples from the corer. The samples that are way off (> 10%) were the first round of core samples and soil conditions were the same for all cores collected (dry, sandy). The other two samples are well-aligned. I plan to take at least another set of soils samples to gather more statistics.
