- Infra:
- new obs in the ingest suite, airnow, dpr, cygniss,
- jedi-build script updates are now in (if you use skylab, sync with jedi tools and new stuff)--allows for more flexible organization of jedi bundle and skylab workflows. Documentation in the repo.
- R2D2 update: production APi service instance is deployed, doing final testing so we can share the new approach with the spack stack 1.9 release.
- Spack stack 1.9 release was cut on friday, working on platform deployment. Further announcements will be made when the release is generally available
- Interfaces and optimization:
- upcoming PR announcements: merging a set of PRs impacting fv3 JEDI that will remove the concept of the staggered degrid winds from the model interface, they will now be viewed as internal detail of the model, not DA. Won’t impact any other model interfaces. Yamls and workflows may need updating once this is merged, there is a github discussion on this.
- Early next week will merge a PR relating to EnKf enabling running forecast on DA on different DI distributions. Github discussion on that as well. Should only require a tiny stub for most models.
- Steve V is rebooting an effort to make the linear variable changes in VADER more flexible and easier to use in different contexts in the code.
- Steves H and V are working on designing some refactoring of the IODA reader.
- Liam is working on initial parts of offloading EC spectral transform onto GPU.
- Beginning to plan next variable name change sprint.
- Algo:
- Clementine and Ricardo working on debugging conversion issues for GS JEDI changes.
- Nate updating skylab experiments for the update to the linear variable changes.
- Debugging an issue with the new standard variable names in static B.
- Working in shifting the beginning of the window for continuous DA and adding templates in skylab to run these continuous DA experiments.
- SOCA:
- wrapping up a large refactor of soca, now switched completely to atlas field sets. Everything now going 15% faster and using 35% less memory. One bug to fix, then will be merged.
- Next big task: rewrite the IO for SOCA.
- COMPO:
- Miami is running GEOS-EF for an experiment/paper they are working on
- Updating IODA converters for trace gas to prepare for bias correction to be done in the future
- Good progress made on reflectance assimilation for aerosol
- Updating jacobians for aerosol
- CRTM:
- focus on preparing for 3.2.0 release. 3.2 will kick off series of changes including scientific updates to land surface properties. 3.2 release will be netCDF only. Working with EMC testing the develop branch right now which will become the 3.2 release. Holding off release until get final feedback from EMC on what they want to see in the release.
- Chasing down an underflow issue.
- Ensuring that compiling in debug mode getting within machine precision the correct answers.
- Steve H merged an update that uses cmake tar function which helps with some interoperability.
- Obs:
- visiting scientist for a month from Taiwan Center, working on GNSS reflectometry and GPS ETD.
- converters updated for cover ISS data and tk(?).
- UFO, all contributors making a new feature PR please make simultaneous PR on documentation so it can be updated. Now waiting on PRs until documentation is ready.
- PR for potential pressure best suited for interface, working to move it there.
- Fv3 JEDI PR on 3D pressure increment has bug with gradient from UFO not passing to the 3D pressure increment. Agree we should put it back so users can choose to pass/not pass the gradient. FV3 only model with that issue.
- Partner updates:
- EMC: adding lots of PRs to SOCA to support the sea ice things. Working on updating the structured grid writer to make it more general to update gaussian fills to pass to the post-processor in UFS. added sentinel 6 in obs. Troubleshooting obs operator conventional.
- GMAO: will submit update for GSI back so 3D pressure can be properly used in that context. Another for GSI back to use virtual temperature. Working on issue with GPS RO. If modules unloaded and loaded again, gives issue with spack-stack 1.8: being discussed, there is a solution already with 1.9.
- Navy: working on updating the version of forecast model using, some configuration changes and updating model version. Working on updating ozone assimilation to spack stack 1.8. Adding TLM and adjoint to NEPTUNE-JEDI interface. Preparing for programmatic reviews. Space weather: submitted PR adding feature that writes geovals to a file–previously issue with missing values because variable number of levels depending on latitude. Discussing path forward for adding more obs operators, right now space weather model not interfaced with UFO.
- MMM: working with 2 PRs, one related to variable name change, one with model space. Nate: would like to do model space variable change first, then Nate’s variable name change PR.
- Met Office: Making good progress, fixed some bugs with obs and MPI tasks.
- Hernan arago: working on variable changes in current grid for 4DVar. Only issue remaining is increments in temperature and salinity came out with errors in one test. Next step, assimilate surface currents from the ocean.
